Joe V. Gordon
Joe V. Gordon, a real estate developer and a founding member of Temple Shalom in Colorado Springs, passed away March 14, 2019, in the Springs. Rabbi Jay Sherwood officiated at the March 18 graveside service at Sons of Israel Cemetery. Swan Law Funeral Home made the arrangements.
Mr. Gordon was born Jan. 17, 1918, in Kovno, Lithuania to Esther Gordon Valovis and Chaim Valovis. In the early 1920s he moved with his family to Palestine and speent his early childhood years in Tel Aviv.
In 1936, Mr. Gordon moved to Bogota, Colombia to be with his brothers and then went to America.
The family says that Mr. Gordon came to the US to fight in WW II. He fought with the Army’s 418th Field Artillery Group in the Pacific Theater and earned the WW II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
After the war, he settled in Los Angeles where he studied construction and began his career in real estate.
Mr. Gordon moved to Colorado Springs in 1956.
He married Anita Tokeras Gottdeiner on April 19, 1958.
Mr. Gordon, along with his brother Sam, co-owned Park View Homes and Highland Park Construction in Colorado Springs where they built in excess of 1,100 homes.
Mr. Gordon is survived by his wife of 61 years Anita T. Gordon of Colorado Springs; children Linda (Bruce) Marks of Oakland, Calif., David (Sharon) Gordon of Denver and Sharon (Kobi) Chumash of Colorado Springs; and grandchildren Alex (Suzana), Josea, Arissa, Jalen, Ben and Tom.
