Joan Madelon Berenbeim Axelrod passed away Feb. 3, 2016, in Denver. Rabbi Joe Black and Cantor Elizabeth Sacks officiated at the Feb. 5 service at Temple Emanuels Feiner Chapel. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Joan was born July 30, 1920, in New York to Monya and Louis Goodney.
She moved to Denver as a child.
After obtaining her associates degree in social work from DU, she married her teenage love S. Leonard Berenbeim. They had three children. Mr. Berenbeim died in 1977.
Joan married Adolph Axelrod in 1982 and became stepmother to his two sons. Mr. Axelrod passed away in 1999.
Joan Berenbeim Axelrod is survived by her children Ronald (Jane) Berenbeim, Linda (Andy) Nathan and Roxane (Curtis Ahrendsen) Berenbeim; step children Stuart and David (Carrie) Axelrod; grandchildren Joshua Nathan, Marni (Jonathan) Kloster, Jessica (Alexander Massouras) Berenbeim, Alexander Berenbeim, Evan (Michelle) Axelrod and Brandon (Denise) Axelrod; and great-grandchildren Caleb Kloster, Moses Berenbeim Massouras, J. T. Axelrod and Sam Axelrod.
She was predeceased by her son Dr. David Berenbeim and her grandchildren Sarah Berenbeim and Samuel Berenbeim.
