Jerry Lee Pitter, a Denver native and chess master, passed away on April 24, 2020, in Marlton, NJ., from the coronavirus. Due to the current situation, a memorial service will not be held at this time.
Mr. Pitter was born May 10, 1945, in Denver to Max and Betty Pitter of Longmont, Colo., where he spent his childhood.
He graduated CU Boulder in 1964 with degrees in math and aeronautical engineering.
Mr. Pitter worked for Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut and the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.
He retired from Lockheed Martin in Moorestown, NJ.
A chess master, he was an avid tournament player, loved art and classical music, and belonged to Temple Beth Shalom in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Jerry Pitter is survived by his sister Charlene Spiegelman of Aurora; nephews Sheldon (Liz) Spiegelman of Highlands Ranch and Brian Spiegelman of Aurora, and niece Sarah (Matt) Anger of Sacramento, Calif.
