Jerry Grossfeld

Jerry GrossfeldJerry Grossfeld, former director of Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Colorado, passed away peacefully on Oct. 31, 2014, at his home in North Carolina. The graveside service is scheduled Friday, Nov. 7, at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery. Montlawn Funeral Home made the arrangements.

Mr. Grossfeld was born Aug. 9, 1924, in the Bronx to the late Berta Grossfeld.

During WW II, he served in the US Army Aircorp and was stationed in the Philippines from 1943-45.

He earned an MA in social work at the University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Grossfeld began his tenure as director of Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Colorado in June, 1976.

Upon his retirement in 1989, he received the Colorado Social Worker of the Year award in recognition of his visionary leadership.

Mr. Grossfeld volunteered with the Colorado Civil Air Patrol after his retirement.

He was recently predeceased by his wife Dorothy Pearl Grossfeld. They were together for 67 years.

Mr. Grossfeld enjoyed listening to classical music and played classical guitar.

He also immersed himself in astronomy, woodworking, photography, collecting rare coins, building model airplanes and writing poetry for his loved ones.

His greatest joy was being with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Mr. Grossfeld is survived by his children Fred (Katherine) Grossfeld of Cary, NC, Dr. Paul (Susan) Grossfeld of San Diego and Brenda Grossfeld of Denver; and grandchildren Nathan, Leigh and Stefan Grossfeld.
