Jean Dietel

Jean Dietel, who moved to Denver in 1996 to be near her children and grandchildren, passed away April 25, 2020. The private service and burial took place April 29 in Saddlebrook, NJ.

“Jean was a New Yorker through and through,” her family said. “She will be missed by the friends, family and acquaintances whose lives she touched with her graciousness, generosity of spirit, sincere interest in people and kind words.”

Mrs. Dietel was born June 21, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY, to Russian immigrants Sam and Anna Foreman. She graduated from James Madison High School in Brooklyn and then helped the war effort.

She married Arthur Dietel in 1948 and lived in Queens, NY, before moving to Westbury, LI.

Mrs. Dietel worked in the theater department at Nassau Community College.

The couple moved to Cranbury, NJ, where she learned to play golf and began her long career playing bridge.

After her husband’s death in 1996, Mrs. Dietel followed her children and grandchildren to Denver. She joined NCJW, Hadassah and B’nai Havurah.

Mrs. Dietel moved to The Carillon at Belleview Station, where she celebrated her gala 95th birthday with family and friends.

Mrs. Dietel, who kept up with her weekly New York Times, the New Yorker and Vanity Fair, supported liberal causes.

Jean Dietel is survived by her two sons Andy and Steve (Shmuel); daughter-in-law Janet Sherman; and favorite grandchildren Nitai and Galit.
