Jane S. Malver Schapiro, a native and lifelong Milwaukee resident, passed away Dec. 7. She was 100 years old.
Born in 1913, Jane graduated from West Division High and went to the University of Wisconsin.
At college, she gained permission to put a slot machine in her dormitory room to test theories of probability. She graduated with a business degree in 1934.
Jane married Arnold Malver the following year. They had two children, Sandra and Frederick.
While residing in Shorewood, Minn., in WW II, she won awards from the Red Cross for her knitting.
Following Arnolds death, she married William Schapiro. They shared a love of music and had a son, Sherman. William predeceased his wife.
Jane was active for several years in the MacDowell Club, Eastern Star, ORT, NCJW, high school and college reunions and book and bridge clubs. She served as treasurer of the North Shore LX Club and was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan.
A soprano, she sang in community choruses and at family gatherings.
Jane, who learned to drive at age 12 to take her mother shopping, continued driving until she was 98.
Her commitment to relatives and friends will be fondly remembered, the family said.
Jane Malver Schapiro is survived by her three children Sandra (Stephen) Malver Goodman of Denver, Frederick (Karen) Malver of New Brighton, Minn., and Sherman (Eva-Lynn) Schapiro of Blue Lake, Calif.; grandchildren Jonathan Goodman of Boulder, Gillian Goodman of Denver, Aaron Malver of Seattle, Michael Malver of Minneapolis and David Malver of Los Angeles; and great-grandchildren Benjamin and Sara Goodman and Max and Evan Segal Goodman.
