Dr. Jacob L. Brener of New York passed away Sept. 8, 2015, in New York. Rabbi Shlomo Hochberg of Young Israel Jamaica Estates officiated at the service, held at Sinai Chapel in Flushing. Interment followed at Floral Park Cemetery in East Brunswick, NJ.
He was eulogized by his children Judy Grumet and Stanley Brener, son-in-law Dr. Yitzchak Teitelbaum, brother Rabbi Pynchas Brener, grandchildren Yonina Teitelbaum and Avi Grumet, and Rabbis Hochberg and Dovid Weinberg.
They emphasized Dr. Breners unwavering commitment to his family, his faith and his profession.
Dr. Brener was born in Tishivitz, Poland, in 1925.
His family moved to Lima, Peru, in 1936.
Dr. Brener completed medical school in Lima and did his residency and fellowship at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Hospital.
He was a professor of medicine at New York Medical College for over 50 years and was a well-respected teacher and clinician.
Dr. Brener is survived by Goldie, his loving wife of 59 years; children Michelle (Yitzchak) Teitelbaum of Denver, Judy (Marty) Grumet and Stanley Brener of New York City; grandchildren Yonina, Jonathan (Basya) and Naava Teitelbaum, Avi (Leah) of Jerusalem and Alexandra and Duvi Grumet; great-granddaughter Noa Hadar Grumet; and brother Rabbi Pynchas Brener.
