Jack Beren (Jacob Berinsky), a Denver resident for many years, passed away March 9, 2011, in Denver. Rabbi Richard Rheins officiated at the March 15 graveside service at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Shalom Funeral Service made the arrangements.
Mr. Beren lived a full and dynamic life indeed, the family said. He made each day count because he loved life and loved people in his personal and unique manner.
His life was his eulogy.
Jacob Berinsky was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Boston, Mass. The family settled in Roxbury, where he graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School.
When WW II broke out, Mr. Beren was drafted into the US military in 1942 and was sent to Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver in 1943.
He served with distinction in various US Army posts until his honorable discharge in January, 1946.
Mr. Beren met his future wife Joan Ernst soon after arriving in Denver. They were married on May 5, 1945.
After Mr. Berens discharge from the Army, the couple moved to Roxbury for a brief period of time and returned to Denver.
For 39 years, Mr. Beren was the manager of a collection agency. He retired in 1985.
Joan always brought the family together for Jewish holidays and cooked traditional foods for everyones enjoyment. Mr. Beren was very proud of her culinary skills.
They had a true and loving partnership for 64 years, the family said.
Mrs. Beren passed away in September, 2009.
Mr. Beren, who served on various committees with associated collection agencies during his career, was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to playing card tricks, he enjoyed attending senior poker games at the JCC several times a week with his friends.
Mr. Beren is survived by his children David (Alta) Beren of Aurora and Barry Beren of Denver; his brother Eliot; and grandchildren Amy and Amber.
He was predeceased by his son Michael in August of 2004.
