Irving Feldman, a longtime Denver resident and community volunteer, passed away Sept. 23, 2009, in Denver. Rabbis Daniel Alter and Marc Gitler co-officiated at the graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery that same day. Shalom Funeral Service made the arrangements.
Mr. Feldman was born March 25, 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was raised in Denver and New York City, where he attended the Yeshivat Yitzchak Elchanan High School of Yeshiva University and the City College of New York.
Following his marriage to Rose Feldman in New York, he returned to Denver to set up a photographic chemistry processing business.
Mr. Feldman taught Hebrew school at BMH-BJ and the HEA. He continued teaching Bible and Judaic studies out of his home until shortly before his death.
Mr. Feldman was the Baal Koreh at the HEA for over 20 years.
In 1972, the Israeli government invited Mr. Feldman to develop a specialized chemical processing facility in Beersheva. He returned to Denver with his family in 1975. Read the IJN editorial eulogizing Irving Feldman
Mr. Feldman was active with Hillel Academy, TRI, DAT and the Great Books Society study group, and helped found the Sloans Lake Citizens Group.
He was instrumental in forming the original Golda Meir Memorial Association, which worked to save the late Israeli prime ministers Denver home.
Mrs. Feldman passed away in 1990.
Following her death, Mr. Feldman volunteered at the CU Health Sciences Center. He worked there for the next 10 years, earning multiple acknowledgements and awards for his volunteer services.
Mr. Feldman married Sarah Feldman nine years ago.
An outdoor enthusiast, his passion for camping and canoeing was surpassed only by his love of fishing.
Mr. Feldman is survived by his wife Sarah Feldman of Denver; children Steve (Barbara) Feldman of Denver, Gerald (Jan) Feldman of Chevy Chase, MD, and Joel Feldman of Gaithersberg, MD; grandchildren Ethyn, Michael, Talya, Elizabeth and Elyana Feldman; and sister Debbie Rosner of New Jersey.
