This is a developing story.
Boulder’s weekly Run For Their Lives gathering was targeted by an incendiary device that left at five individuals injured with burns, the regional director of Secure Community Network Colorado reported.
“At approximately 1:50 p.m. MST today (Sunday June 1, 2025) a male subject confronted the Boulder Run for Their Lives walk/run group as they gathered at the Boulder Courthouse/City Hall on Pearl Street. Initial reports indicate the subject was likely waiting for the group at the Courthouse/City Hall location,” said Kevin Farrington in a statement, June 1.
“The subject had a box with multiple bottles, and threw one into the group, which resulted in a fire. There were 5 individuals injured with burns. At least one of the victims was significantly burned. The victims are receiving medical care now, and as of this time there are no fatal injuries.”
Farrington cautioned that it was raw intelligence.
Boulder Police were on scene but it was uncomfirmed if the suspect was in custody. The FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force was also responding to the scene.
“We are saddened and heartbroken to learn that an incendiary device was thrown at walkers at the Run for Their Lives walk on Pearl Street as they were raising awareness for the hostages still held in Gaza,” wrote representatives from Boulder Jewish organizations in a joint statement.
“Our hearts go out to those who witnessed this horrible attack, and prayers for a speedy recovery to those who were injured . . . We are in touch with law enforcement about our Boulder Jewish community, and safety is our highest priority. We are working closely with SCN, Boulder PD, and the FBI. We are grateful for the first responders who are caring for our injured.
“We will continue to work together to share information and provide support for our community. When events like this enter our own community, we are shaken. Our hope is that we come together for one another.”
The statement was signed by Rabbi Fred Greene, Har HaShem ; Rabbi Marc Soloway, Bonai Shalom ; Rabbi Diane Tiferet Lakein, Nevei Kodesh; Elyana Funk, CU Boulder Hillel , and Jonathan Lev and Cynthia Weinger, Boulder JCC.
According to Farrington, there are no known additional threats against the community, however, enhanced situational awareness is highly encouraged as a logical precaution.
