Rabbi Howard Hirsch

Temple Shalom in Colorado Springs announces the death of rabbi emeritus Howard Hirsch, who passed away April 15, 2020, in Cleveland, Ohio. The funeral service for immediate family was held April 19 in Cleveland. Details of his illness were not disclosed, in keeping with their wishes.

“We are grateful for the gifts that he shared with our community,” the congregation said.

Although he was in a care facility and his wife Eva and family were unable to visit him in person, they waved at him through the window.

Rabbi Hirsch served as the spiritual leader of Temple Shalom, 1989-1997.

As both a rabbi and community educator, Hirsch dedicated his time to teaching at Regis University in Denver; served as a guest speaker at several local churches; and founded the Christian-Jewish Dialogue in Colorado Springs.

He shepherded Temple Shalom through a time of growth and community outreach during his tenure.

Condolence notes for Eva Hirsch and the Hirsch family may be sent to 7208 Eagle Mills Rd., Waite Hill, OH 44094-9683.
