How many Palestinian refugees: 5,000,000 or 30,000?

When the Palestinian Authority lifts the primary ideological tenet right out of the Zionist playbook and demands a “right of return,” the PA says that five million Palestinian refugees deserve that right. Note to the PA: Watch out for the US Senate Appropriations Committee.

It approved an amendment to the foreign appropriations bill that would distinguish between Palestinian refugees alive in 1948 and their descendants.

Initiated by Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and passed May 24, the amendment requires the State Dept. to report within a year on approximately how many people are receiving assistance from the UN Relief and Works Agency who lived in Palestine, June, 1946-May, 1948, and were displaced as a result of the conflict there; and who are descendants of those people.

That would be about 30,000 people — a drastically smaller number than the 5,000,000 people that UNRWA considers eligible for its services. No other UN agencies assign refugee status to descendants of Palestinians who fled the area during the 1948-1949 war.

The US is a major funder of UNRWA. It’s time for the charade to stop.
