Gunmen took some 300 students and teachers hostage from a school in Nigeria on Friday morning, Nov. 21. The hostages are Christians. The way Bishop Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, the Nigeria state chair of the Christian Assn. of Nigeria counted, 303 students and 12 teachers were abducted.
The APreported that 50 escaped.
The hostage horror wheel turns again, with its excruciating uncertainties and sufferings.
Hamas Muslim kidnappers hate Jews, especially Israeli ones. Nigerian kidnappers hate Christians. The results are similar: Killings. Human pawns. “Bring them home now.” Forced, or attempted forced, conversions to Islam. Starvation. Torture. Sadism. Military responses (this time, apparently intended by the Trump administration). Fanaticism: my way or the highway. Gaza, Nigeria, it’s the same.
Jews expected people of goodwill everywhere to understand the plight of the hostages take by Hamas, and of the plight of Israel more generally. Jews should and can understand the plight of the hostages taken in Nigeria, and of Christians in Nigeria more generally. Yes, “bring them home now!”
