Mr. Strauss was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1927. In 1933, as Hitler took power, his family left Germany for Spain, stayed a short time in Luxembourg and then went to Denmark.

They immigrated to New York in 1937 and came to Denver in 1939.

Mr. Strauss graduated from East High School and CU, where he earned a pharmacy degree.

In 1955 he obtained a real estate broker’s license and opened Strauss Realty, a residential real estate business.

Mr. Strauss and his first wife Florence married in 1958. She died in 1995.

He married his second wife Joan in 1999.

Active in Democratic politics, the Rotary Club and the Council on Foreign Relations, he served on the Metropolitan State University Foundation board for 22 years.

He traveled the globe well into his 80s, and made 26 trips to China.

Mr. Strauss founded the Florence G. Strauss Indigenous Medicine Collection Fund in 1995 (renamed the Florence G. Strauss-Wisneski Indigineous and Integrative Medicine Collection in 2010) and amassed books on alternative global health practices and native therapies.

The collection, which became Mr. Strauss’ pride and joy over the past two-and-a-half decades, contains over 4,000 volumes and is now housed at the Strauss Health Sciences Library.

Henry Strauss is survived by his wife Joan Strauss; children Andy Strauss, Pam Strauss (Mike Zislis) and Mimi Brouillette (Mark Brouillette); granddaughters Abbie and Emily Zislis and Emma and Edie Brouillette; and his beloved dog Max.
