[dropcap]Helen[/dropcap] Schulman, a stenographer with the US Armed Forces, passed away February 10, 2020 in Lakewood, Colo. Rabbi Steven Kaye officiated at the February 14 graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery. Shalom Funeral Service made the arrangements.

Mrs. Schulman was born December 24, 1928 in Des Moines, Iowa.

A graduate of East High School in Des Moines, she attended classes at Drake University, also in Des Moines.

Mrs. Schulman married Dr. Eugene Schulman in 1949. The couple later divorced.

Mrs. Schulman worked for Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in Bonn, West Germany; as an art consultant for Circle Gallery and Gallery M in Denver; and a docent in African Art at the Denver Art Museum.

“Of the many things she did, Helen was most happy being a bubbe,” said the family. “She adored and was involved in the lives of her actual grandchildren, and she also embraced being bubbe to everyone she knew.

“Many acquaintances only knew her as ‘Bubbe,’ which was proudly displayed on her license plate and the nameplates at her last two homes.”

A traveler, reader and movie and theater-goer, Mrs. Schulman was passionate about politics, and had a strong commitment to her community and Judaism. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed entertaining.

Mrs. Schulman believed strongly in volunteering. Her family called her “a natural teacher. She was also always learning, about art and artists, different cultures and new technology.”

Mrs. Schulman was a lifetime member of NCJW and was active with its children’s traveling theater. She was the first woman vice-president of Beth Joseph, chaired the Denver JCC art committee, and co-chaired the city-wide Israel 25 celebration.

Mrs. Schulman is survived by son Louis (Jennifer) Schulman of Littleton; daughter Barbara (Scott) Knaster of Cambpell, Calif.; grandchildren Micah and Eli Schulman of Littleton; Jess (Linsky) Knaster of Lancaster, Calif, and Devi Knaster of Campbell, Calif., and sisters Sora Price of Ventura, Calif.; and Geet Jacobson of Sarasota, Fla.

Contributions may be made to the Carolyn Eisen Memorial Scholarship Fund, National Council of Jewish Women Colorado section, Attn: Selena L. Dunham, PO Box 460892, Denver, CO 80246; or the charity of choice.
