HEA-Brews win sixth straight Silver Kiddush Cup

The winning HEA-Brews teamBy Loren Knaster

The Denver Jewish Softball League came to another exciting finish this past weekend. Fourteen teams from 10 different Jewish organizations entered the single elimination playoff tournament. Just as in the five years prior, the HEA was the last team standing.

The HEA-Brews avenged a regular season loss to Klalboration of BandEdos with a 21-8 win in the championship bout.

BandEdos couldn’t pull through despite having nearly 50 cheering fans. It’s the third straight year these two squads have met in the finals.

As the number one seed in the Corned Beef Division, HEA’s route to its 6th straight Kiddush Cup started with a quarterfinal win over the Rodef Shalom Men in Green.

That set up a semifinal showdown between the HEA-Brews and the 10 Plagues from the JCC.

Led by catcher Dani Stern (9-9 in the playoffs despite breaking his ankle in the final game), HEA cinched a spot in the final with a 14-3 win.

On the Pastrami side of the bracket, BandEdos opened up the postseason with a victory over the other Rodef team, the Jew Crew.

The team found similar success against the BMH-BJ Bench Jocks, earning itself a spot in the final four. There they would clash with the Temple Sinai Mitts-vahs, a team on the rise and in the midst of its best ever DJSL season.

The Mitts-vahs won the Pastrami Division regular season crown with a 9-1 record, including an opening day win against the BandEdos.

However, their semifinal rematch had a very different result, with BandEdos picking up the win and setting up the HEA-BandEdos championship.

Once again, a huge thanks goes out to commissioners Seth Davis and Scott Richardson for making this all possible!
