Harvey Newman, a longtime engineer at KMGH-TV (Channel 7) in Denver, passed away on Jan. 31, 2022. A service was held on Feb. 3 at Mt. Nebo Memorial Park, officiated by Rabbi Sara Gilbert. Arrangements were made by Feldman Mortuary.
Mr. Newman was born on May 1, 1936 in New Jersey. After his graduation from high school, Mr. Newman enlisted in the US Navy, stationed in Greenland and Alaska.
Mr. Newman’s military service was during the Cold War. His family says Mr. Newman had involvement with the “DEW Line,” a series of radar stations across Arctic regions that could detect enemy bombers.
After his military service, Mr. Newman started his 30-year career at KMGH, beginning as a technician, and later as an on-air technical director.
“His time there was a measure of not only his technological expertise and his career success,” his family said, “but also of his ability to keep an even keel in the face of a precise and demanding environment.”
In 1966 Mr. Newman married Benita Weingart. They were married for over 55 years until his passing.
