To advance solutions to critical issues in Colorado, such as water conservation and alternative energy, the Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado is hosting an economic development mission to Israel with Gov. Bill Ritter and experts from his cabinet, July 12-18.
The visit is the result of a 10-year partnership between the Ramat Negev community and AJF.
Colorado, like Ramat Negev, has been coping with problems of water, soil and climate very similar to those of Ramat Negev, says Shmuel Rifman, mayor of the Ramat Negev Regional Council.
In the last few years, discussions have been held between experts and decision-makers so as to promote collaboration. This visit is the outcome of these discussions.
Israel has one of the most stable economies in the world.
It boasts more venture capital funding and more start-up companies per capita than any other developed nation.
Both Colorados and Israels economies emphasize solar research, cleantech, wise use of water and agriculture.
Gov. Ritters trip is intended to exchange best-practices and sign memorandums of understanding for collaboration in these industries.
This is a proactive leadership mission for the betterment of Colorados economy today and more importantly, to create a foundation for the future economic success for our state, said AJF President and CEO Doug Seserman.
Ritter will help demonstrate to a wider audience the enormous value that expanded economic and technological cooperation with Israel will bring to Colorado.
Because Israel is a trading partner with the US, many American governors have visited Israel and entered bilateral agreements.
Governors who have led economic development missions to Israel include Arnold Schwarzenegger (Calif.), Jennifer Granholm (Mich.) and Tim Pawlenty (Minn.).
The trip is underwritten by private donations.
Among those joining Gov. Ritter are First Lady Jeannie Ritter; Colorado Economic Development and International Trade Director Don Marostica; Energy Director Tom Plant; and Agriculture Commissioner John Stulp, as well as officials from the Colorado School of Mines, CSU and its affiliated Colorado Water Institute, and the Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory.
Others include representatives from Braddock Financial Corp., Allonhill, Israel Investment Advisors, Madison Ventures, the Monroe Group, Steele Properties, Hogan Lovells, ADL, AJC, AIPAC and AJF.
