Gerald Marcove

Denver native Gerald Melville Marcove, 87, a resident of Montecito, Calif., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on July 21, 2020.

The second child of Gertrude and Maurice Marcove, Mr. Marcove was born in Denver on June 19, 1933.

After he graduated from East High School and earned a BA in business from CU, he went into business with his brother Alan.

They founded several businesses, the most prominent of which was VSA (Venders Supply of America).

His entrepreneurship in the food industry employed hundreds of people.

He met and married Donna Mae Labertew.

“He was known by all who ever came into his presence for his kindness, strength, and generosity,” Mr. Marcove’s family stated.

“No one ever had a need he wasn’t willing to fill. But perhaps his greatest gift to all was simply being his compassionate self.”

He retired at the age of 53 in 1986 and with his wife embarked on a series of international travels across the globe.

They settled in San Francisco where a small apartment evolved into living in and enjoying the city by the Bay for over 20 years.

The final six years of his life were spent in Montecito, Calif.”

Mr. Marcove is survived by his wife Donna; son Jeffrey; daughters Devonne, Danelle, and Denise: grandchildren Christine, Benjamin, Alexander, Natalya and Nickolas; and great grandchildren Maclain, Isabella, and Michael.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of choice.
