Genevieve (“Gen”) Faingold, 96, who touched up her husband’s photographs of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Harry Truman and others with her artistic skill, passed away April 21, 2020, in Denver. Rabbi Emily Hyatt officiated at the April 24 graveside service at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
“Gen was an entrepreneurial, strong-willed woman known for acting on her own volition,” her loved ones said. “She taught her family self-reliance and inspired them to think for themselves, while providing selfless support.”
Mrs. Faingold was born March 20, 1924, and raised in Fort Collins.
She met Bernie Faingold in Cheyenne, Wyo., where they married in 1952. Sheworked with her husband at Faingold Studios.
The couple moved to Denver with their young family in 1961.
Mrs. Faingold used her artistic abilities to retouch her husband’s portraits long before the invention of Photoshop.
Mrs. Faingold and her husband photographed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Harry Truman, Sen. Ted Kennedy, Supreme Court Justice Byron White, Nelson Rockefeller, Dick Van Dyke, Maurice Chevalier, Liberace and others.
A patron of the arts, Mrs. Faingold enjoyed high fashion and design, jazz,and her flower garden. She loved speaking Spanish and learning about foreign languages and cultures during her travels.
Mr. Faingold predeceased his wife.
Gen Faingold is survived by her children Fidelia (Stuart) Kirk of Santa Fe, NM, David Faingold of Denver, Cindy (Greg) Phillips of Monument and Carole (Hans) Naeff of Greenwood Village; grandchildren Lyndsey (Monte) Richard, Sally Gordon, Sarah (Bryce) Reeves, Ali (Rylan) Miller, Ben Faingold, Ryan Phillips, Emily Faingold and Marc Gordon; and great-grandchildren Goldie Richard and Zev Richard.
