The United States is closing its embassies around the Middle East out of fear of a terrorist attack(s). Who is there to fear? Well, it seems one of the main, potential culprits is escaped terrorists from prisons in countries like Libya, Iraq and Pakistan.
That sounds like a rational fear and a rational response, until you turn to another United States effort in the Middle East: Pressuring Israel to accede to Palestinian demands to release terrorists from Israeli prisons.
If you can make sense out of this Keystone Cops scenario, your powers of perception exceed ours. Yes, escaped terrorists come back and do more of the same; yes, terrorists in Israeli prisons need not escape. They are given free tickets out of prison — in order to give peace talks a chance. Words fail, not to mention the policies they depict. When a terrorist is freely given a free reign in the name of peace, words lose their meaning. Fear terrorists — release terrorists. Terrorists hinder peace — terrorists enable peace. Go figure.
