Final days

Can you believe it? After all these months – or has it been years? – the campaign “season” is finally winding down. And even though only a handful of days now remain, the mud slinging, scandals, and rhetoric all continue full steam.

Though Obama has clearly been the shining star (so shiny, in fact some of us are starting to get a headache from the brightness), almost gliding by, McCain seems to have a fairy godmother. Because at this late stage, the dog’s been thrown a bone.

We’re referring of course, to the Obama-Khalidi video, which McCain’s campaign is accusing the LA Times of supressing. According to McCain’s people, the video, of a 2003 banquet where Obama spoke about his friendship with Palestinian activist Rashid Khalid, would, well, at the very least, call into questions Obama’s recent backing of Israel. Rocky Mountain Jew received a tip this morning that some quotes from the tape had found their way (as these things tend to) into the blogosphere. Though the quotes haven’t been verified, Doug Ross’ blog is usually a reliable source, so we’ve decided to (cautiously) publish the quotes, which come from someone who allegedly viewed the tape:

Saw a clip from the tape. Reason we can’t release it is because statements Obama said to rile audience up during toast. He congratulates Khalidi for his work saying “Israel has no God-given right to occupy Palestine” plus there’s been “genocide against the Palestinian people by Israelis.”

Pretty damning stuff…but of course, unverified.

If you’ve had enough of the potshots and last ditch efforts in what’s been a seemingly never ending campaign, but want some reliable information on the candidates, we’ve posted summaries of both Obama’s and McCain’s Israel platforms, as well as articles on who might advise the future president on his Israel policy. For Colorado elections, check out our local news section, where we have profiles on candidates running for US Senate as well as various Congressional districts.
