It has become an annual event:commemorating 9/11 at Civic Center Park.
Hosted by The CELL, together with other Denver organizations, Colorado Remembers this year will recognize the public safety commnity and honor first responders and service men and women on the 15th anniversary of the vile attack.
The unprecedented attack on American soil, which took 2,996 lives and injured over 6,000 others, is not receding from memory. But 15 years on, new ways of remembering this turning point in American history are being explored.
In the case of Colorado Remembers, music is a driver to instilling a sense of community.
Many Holocaust survivors have said that their greatest revenge against Hitler and Nazism was surviving and having children — furthering the Jewish generations.
A similar response can be taken in the face of terrorism. In addition to the real battle against current terror, the way the average citizen can fight terrorism is to continue living one’s life as normal. Terror, by definition, seeks to disrupt society by attacking innocent civilians. We should not let ourselves be disrupted.
By gathering at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2016 in Civic Center Park, we can demonstrate not only our sense of community, but a sense of unity and triumph against those who seek to destroy us.
