We have failed ourselves

Aleppo tragedy is in our faces. But it’s too late. The sickening horror of that is striking me and all of us deep in our bellies. Because of advanced technology we can’t bury our heads in the sand and ignore the slaughter that is happening so far away. Rwanda and Darfur, which we mostly shook our heads at, decrying the terrible genocide — it shouldn’t have yet it did feel more removed. In our current modern reality, that kind of well-intentioned indifference is no longer possible. Because of social media, we are now exposed to the raw pain of the tragedy with a sense of proximity and intimacy to the massacre, previously unknown.
