Evelyn Flaxer

Evelyn Flaxer, honored as Yeshiva Toras Chaim’s Rose of the Year in 2010, passed away Sept. 6, 2012. Rabbis Ben Greenberg and Salomon Gruenwald and Cantors Joel Lichterman and Martin Goldstein officiated at the Sept. 9 service held at BMH-BJ. Interment followed at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“She was a woman of grace, unwavering loyalty, true honesty and immense strength,” said a family member. “We shared our lives with her, and she loved us completely.

“Refined and elegant, she was surrounded by loving family and friends throughout her life. Everyone came to her for advice and comfort.”

Mrs. Flaxer was born March 22, 1923, in Denver to Louis Isaac Sachs and Edith Sachs. The youngest child in a close-knit family, she attended East High School and business school.

She worked at Mountain Bell before marrying Dr. Carl Flaxer in 1944.

When Dr. Flaxer graduated from medical school, the couple moved to Keenesburg, Colo. He was the respected country doctor, and she was beloved by the whole town.

They returned to Denver and moved around the corner from Beth Joseph Synagogue, which they helped found.

Mrs. Flaxer, who worked at her husband’s busy medical practice, made sure her home was filled with laughter, friends and family.

The Flaxers were together 54 years. Dr. Flaxer passed away in 1997.

An active supporter of Beth Joseph, BMH-BJ and Hadassah, Mrs. Flaxer was named Rose of the Year by Yeshiva Toras Chaim in 2010.

Mrs. Flaxer is survived by her children Michael (Sharlyn) Flaxer, Susan (Mark) Zalkin, Lisa (Jacques) Ruda and Lori (the late Steve) Kamlet; grandchildren Erik and Karen Flaxer; Sara, David ( Jessica) and Mara Zalkin, Emily, Charlie and Shauna Ruda, and Jennifer and Jeremy Kamlet; and great-grandchildren Shmuel Yekusiel, Emunah, and Avraham Zalkin.

Contributions may be made to Shalom Hospice or BMH-BJ.
