Eva Frank Siegel, a leader in the Salt Lake City Jewish community for 70 years, passed away Oct. 11, 2009, in Salt. Lake. She was 103.
Mrs. Siegel was born July 16, 1906, in Salt Lake City to Louis and Bertha Frank.
She spent her childhood in Nephi, Utah, where her parents owned and operated the general store. They were the only Jewish family in the small Mormon community.
After moving back to Salt Lake, she graduated East High and then from the University of California-Berkeley in 1928.
While teaching in Salt Lake, she met Max Siegel. They were married in 1929. Mr. Siegel passed away in 1962.
In 1972, Mrs. Siegel donated a swimming pool in her husbands memory to the Salt Lake JCC.
For 70 years, she was a leader in the Salt Lake Jewish and civic communities.
She served as president of Temple BNai Israel Sisterhood, Hadassah and Friendship Manor, and was secretary at Congregation Kol Ami and the JCC.
She was also on the JCC board.
Mrs. Siegel is survived by her son Dan (Margaret) Siegel of Laguna, Calif., and daughter Valerie (Herschel) Richter of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; grandchildren David Siegel, Lisa Foster, Carla Bartell, Robert Siegel, Jessica Siegel and Stacey Richter; and seven great-grandchildren.
