81, Estelle Nadel bears no physical hint of the trauma inflicted upon her in the Holocaust. She’s petite, lovely, immaculately groomed. Her expressive eyes communicate serenity, unless the narrative grows too painful. Estelle, who came to Denver 12 years ago from Los Angeles, is a first soprano with the Colorado Hebrew Chorale and the Temple Sinai High Holiday Choir. Liturgical music is embedded in her soul. Married to Frank Nadel, she has three sons (just like her mother did) and five granddaughters (a joy her mother never knew). Within minutes, Estelle reaches back to the bitter fountain of her childhood in Poland and calmly retells her saga. Only those eyes suggest discomfort.
