Elliott Husney

Elliott Husney, a lawyer, entrepreneur and philanthropist who took an active role in Jewish organizations in Denver, passed away Sept. 19, 2019, in Denver. Rabbi Joe Black and music director Steve Brodsky officiated at the Sept. 23 service held at Temple Emanuel. Interment followed at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

A beloved husband, father, brother, son, uncle, grandfather and friend, “Elliott was a respected attorney, advisor, fundraiser and generous contributor to his community, local, political and religious,” his family said.

“Beyond all of his professional and philanthropic accomplishments, Elliott truly excelled at guiding people along the path of integrity . . . His generosity of spirit will be greatly missed.”

Mr. Husney, born in Minneapolis to the late Ed and Betty Husney, came to Denver for a golf tournament, met his future wife Gloria and never looked back.

Mr. Husney received his BSBA and JD from DU. After graduation, he served as a trial attorney for the US Securities & Exchange Commission.

Since 1972, Mr. Husney was engaged in the venture capital and investment advisory business and helped small businesses with financing, strategic negotiations and problem solving.

“Elliott had a visionary and entrepreneurial leadership style,” the family said.

He was the director of three public and six private companies and served on the board of the American Heliothermal Corp. through an IPO. His international work extended to the UK, Scotland and Israel.

Mr. Husney was president of the American Jewish Committee and the Jewish Community Relations Council. He was a founding member of the Kabbalah Center, where he also was a board member; belonged to the ADL’s Catholic Jewish Dialogue group; and the Assn. for Corporate Growth.

He also participated in many political campaigns, most notably for Pat Schroeder, Tim Wirth and Gary Hart.

Mr. Husney, considered a master orator, was renowned for his stylish hats. He was passionate about golf, poker and politics.

Elliott Husney is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria L. Husney; sons Ron (Angela), Ken and Evan (Mary Catherine); sisters Cecile Javinsky and Joanne Sullivan; and grandchildren Dylan and Morgan Husney.
