Ellen Goetz de Kaufmann

Ellen_KaufmannEllen Goetz de Kaufmann passed away July 24, 2016, in Santiago, Chile. She was 88. The service and burial were held July 25 at Israelita Conchali Cemetery in Santiago.

Mrs. Goetz de Kaufmann was born in 1927 in Berlin, Germany.

In 1939, she escaped Nazi Germany with her family and went to Chile via England and Ellis Island.

She married Hans Kaufmann in 1948.

A clinical pharmacologist, Ellen and Hans made aliyah with their three children in 1970.

They settled in Netanya, Israel.

During the Yom Kippur War in 1973, Kibbutz Maabarot asked Mrs. Goetz de Kaufmann to volunteer in the Trima factory, which manufactured medicine for the IDF.

After the war she was hired in quality control at Trima.

Mr. Kaufmann passed away in 1995.

From age 70 to 80, Mrs. Goetz de Kaufmann helped create and volunteered at a Jewish pharmacy (reshet) for impoverished Jews.

Mrs. Goetz de Kaufmann is the mother of Gabriela (Peter) Gottlieb, Daniel Kaufmann and Benjamin Kaufmann; grandmother of David, Yael and Yoni Kaufmann and five other grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
