Eileen Schechter

Eileen Schechter, a Denver-area resident for many years, passed away April 5, 2018, in Golden, Colo. Rabbi Bruce Dollin officiated at the April 8 graveside service at Golden Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“Eileen lived for and loved her children and six grandchildren unequivocally, and is remembered by everyone she met for her warm and welcoming smile and sincere interest in others,” her loved ones said.

“Her family will forever miss her.”

Mrs. Schechter was born June 16, 1934, in Syracuse, NY.

Afflicted with severe asthma as a child, her parents moved to Denver to improve her health.

She graduated North High School.

On Feb. 28, 1954, she married David Schechter, a child survivor of the Holocaust.

The couple had four children but suffered the devastating loss of their third child Larry when he was killed in a car accident at age two-and-a-half. They supported each other through many challenges during their 52-year marriage.

Mr. Schechter died on Nov. 6, 2006, following a six-year decline due to Alzheimer’s disease.

Mrs. Schechter, a saleswoman at Fashion Bar for 25 years, won many best salesperson awards during her tenure at the store.

In 2013, she moved from the family home in Lakewood to Golden Pond, a retirement community in Golden and “loved this community throughout the five years she resided there,” the family said.

She belonged to Hadassah.

Mrs. Schechter is survived by her children Bonnie (Tom Orin) Schechter-Orin, Mark (Terri) Schechter and Marty (Lori) Schechter; sisters Audrey (Steve) Wittenberg and Eleanor Shiland; and grandchildren John Orin and Matthew, Logan, Max, Ben and Alana Schechter.

Her son Larry Schechter predeceased her on Dec. 25, 1964.
