Eileen Barnett Mayer, founder and director of DUs Spa Week, passed away Aug. 16, 2010, in Denver. Rabbi Steven Foster and Cantor Maurice Weiss officiated at the Aug. 22 graveside service held at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
She advocated for healthy lifestyle choices, including exercise and fitness, long before it became popular, her family said. Her personal passion became her vocation.
Those around her counted on her sage advice and support.
Mrs. Mayer, niece of the late IJN publisher Max Goldberg, was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Denver.
She met her future husband, Adolph Bud Mayer, while working at Max Goldbergs advertising agency.
They were married in 1943.
Mr. Mayer passed away in 1999.
She attended DU, taught yoga and water exercise at the university, and later founded DUs annual Spa Week.
Mrs. Mayer is survived by her sister Delores (Larry) Simon of Van Nuys, Calif.; son Reed (Vicki) Mayer of Loveland, Colo., and daughter Meredith Mayer of Fort Collins; and grandson Jonathan Mayer of Fort Collins.
Contributions may be made to the Denver Dumb Friends League.
