We could carry on about the great job Stanley Kamlet has done for Jewish National Fund. We could take you back to what he did before that: He founded what is now the Jewish Community Foundation, the endowment arm of the Allied Jewish Federation. We could say that after a long and successful stint at the federation, at which time Stanley Kamlet was at retirement age, he chose not to retire, but to keep giving back to the community.
We could say that Stanley Kamlet stems from a wonderful Colorado Jewish family and regale you with stories and memories of, for example, his father, a pillar at many Jewish institutions in the city. We could say that Stanley Kamlet comes by community service by way of genes or spiritual inheritance.
We could point all this out. It would all be true, but it would also be almost beside the point. For the real celebration in Stanley Kamlets 80th birthday which will be duly marked next week at a JNF event is the mentschlikeit, the caring, the good cheer, the balance, the sense of humor, the historical memory, the commitment to this community and to the Jewish people the sheer fun of Stanley Kamlet. He is steady, consistent, creative; he is not only a good doer but a good listener, a person who knows how to get things done without stepping on anyones toes. Anyone who has worked in Jewish community life knows how rare these qualities are.
And worth celebrating!
Thank you, Stanley Kamlet, for all you do, for all youve done, for all you will do but most of all, thank you for being yourself!
Happy Birthday!
