Edward Yabrove, an independent oil and gas producer, passed away May 14, 2011, in Denver. Rabbi Joe Black and Cantor Regina Heit officiated at the May 16 service at Temple Emanuel. Interment followed at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Ed loved the beauty of the outdoors and sent most of his time enjoying the wilderness, whether he was gardening, camping or fishing, the family said.
Also known as Big Ed, he was a clown for the Shrine Circus and loved to laugh and make other people laugh, they said.
Mr. Yabrove was born Dec. 4, 1921, in Marietta, Ohio.
He attended Lanecaster High School in Lanecaster, Ohio, and went to Central Michigan University for two years before enlisting in the US Army.
During WW II, he was in the South Pacific. Initially with the medical unit, he later moved to the army band, for which he played the trumpet.
He served for four years.
Mr. Yabrove married Janet Wanda Wholwerth on June 19, 1949. They were married for 61 years.
In 1995, Mr. Yabrove retired from business.
He belonged to the Mason Columbine Lodge and was a clown in the Shrine Circus for many years.
Mr. Yabrove is survived by his wife Janet Yabrove; children Kathy (Fred) Knaus, Gary (Leslie Laurien) Yabrove and James (Marilyn) Yabrove; grandchildren Sara, Rachel, Hannah, Allison, Daniel and Zoe; and great-grandson Joshua.
