Edward Lackner

Edward LacknerEdward Joel Lackner, well known for his volunteer efforts and Jewish organizational support, passed away July 5, 2015, in Denver. He was 89. Rabbis Steven Foster and Joe Black officiated at the July 7 service at Temple Emanuel. Interment followed at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Mr. Lackner was born April 5, 1926, in Denver to Anna and Max Lackner. He graduated from East High School and CU.

During WW II, he served on the front lines of the European Theater with the US Army’s 103rd Battalion “Cactus Division” of the Seventh Army. He earned the Bronze Star.

Mr. Lackner became the CEO of Banner Distributing Co. with his partner Norman Levy. The recipient of numerous business awards, he was honored with the Steuben Class collection.

He also was the founder and president of HADDI, a trade association of like distributorships.

In the community, Mr. Lackner served on several boards including the ADL, Allied Jewish Federation and Mile High United Way. He was an officer at Green Gables Country Club and a life member of Temple Emanuel.

He wintered with his wife Doris in Scottsdale, Ariz., for 30 years and was a member of Troon Country Club.

An avid golfer, one of Mr. Lackner’s favorite charities was First Tee of Denver. His love of tennis, bridge, cribbage and cards continued for many years.

Mr. Lackner is survived by Doris Lackner, his loving wife of 62 years; children Nancy (Alan) Brodovsky of Sacramento, Calif., and Cynthia Lacker of Denver; grandchildren Matthew (Jessica) Wasko of Denver, Dustin Wasko of Chicago, Jeffrey Brodovsky of Cleveland and Ryan Brodovsky of San Francisco; great-granddaughter Madeline Rose Wasko; brother Al Lackner; and sister-in-law Donna Kornfield.
