Edward Cohen

Edward J. Cohen, an attorney and one of the founders of Herzl Jewish Day School, passed away July 16, 2018, in Denver. Rabbi Steven Foster officiated at the July 20 service at Shalom Chapel. Shalom Funeral Service made the arrangements.

“Edward was a revolutionary in the personal bankruptcy business, giving thousands of people a fresh start through the Chapter 13 repayment process,” the family said.

Mr. Cohen was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Scottsbluff, Neb.

He married Elizabeth Cohen on Feb. 19, 1967.

Mr. Cohen, credited for streamlining the personal bankruptcy process, was one of the first attorneys to use computers in the legal practice.

He also was the first attorney in Colorado to advertise his services on TV.

Mr. Cohen and his wife were among the founders of Herzl Jewish Day School.

A doting father and loving husband, he was an avid tennis and bridge player.

Mr. Cohen is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth Cohen; daughter Sara Cohen of Denver and son Michael Cohen of Seattle, Wash.; brothers Harold Cohen and Philip (Agnete) Cohen; and his extended family.
