E. Lee Garlett, MD

Dr. Lee GarlettDr. E. Lee Garlett, a Denver native who worked as a physician at Rose Medical Center for half a century, passed away May 17, 2009. Funeral services, with Rabbi Bruce Dollin and Cantor Martin Goldstein officiating, were held May 19 at the HEA with interment at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Born in Denver on April 29, 1924, Dr. Garlett was educated at Cheltenham Elementary, Lake Junior High, West High School, the University of Texas at Austin and the Tulane University Medical School. At Texas, he graduated Phi Beta Kapa and at Tulane he graduated number one in his class.

He was a WW II veteran of the US Navy, and later served during the Korean War as a US Air Force captain, stationed in a M.A.S.H. unit in Anchorage, Alaska where he treated wounded soldiers.

Dr. Garlett married Rosalice Garlett on Aug. 24, 1951 in Philadelphia. He was preceded by her in death on Dec. 21, 2004.

From 1954 to his retirement in July, 2004, Dr. Garlett was on staff at Rose Medical Center as an internist and cardiologist.

His family described him as a “devoted husband, father and grandfather, a dedicated physician for 53 years who was admired and respected by his medical colleagues and patients. He loved spending time with his family. He and his wife traveled to Israel, London, Paris, Italy, Hawaii and Mexico.”

Dr. Garlett is survived by his daughter Nina (David) Ickovic; his sons Philip (Catherine) Garlett, Frank (Debbie) Garlett and Jon Garlett; his sister Shirley (Harold) Waxman; and his granddaughter Laura Laff.
