Dr. Seymour Schor

Dr. Seymour “Sy” A. Schor, a retired optometrist, passed away Aug. 4, 2019, at age 100.

Rabbi Rachel Kobrin officiated at the Aug. 6 graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Dr. Schor was born to Jenny and Morris Schor, Jan. 27, 1919, in Manhattan and attended New York Public Schools.

He met Pearl Cohen in 1941 when they were both student nurses at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn. They were married April 6, 1943 in New York, and moved to Philadelphia where Dr. Schor enrolled in optometry school.

The couple moved to Denver with their first two children in 1948. Dr. Schor opened his optometry practice near Lakeside, which he operated for many years.

Dr. and Mrs. Schor were instrumental in the formative years of Rodef Shalom and remained members there for the rest of their lives.

When he retired, the Schors became snowbirds and spent the winter months in Florida, where they were active in B’nai B’rith, raising more than $500,000 for the organization.

Dr. Schor was a huge baseball fan, walking to the Denver Bears games when he lived on the West Side. He passed his love of the sport on to his grandson Joey who is building his career in professional baseball.

Sy and Pearl Schor were featured in L’Chaim Magazine on the occasion of their 75th wedding anniversary, several weeks before her death in April, 2018.

Dr. Schor was also predeceased by his son David.

He is survived by his children Bobbie (Glen) Zelkind, Cindy (Joe) Archer, Patti Schor and Mark (Sue) Schor; grandchildren Scott (Elizabeth) Groginsky, Lynne Ford, Nicole (Tony) Nordstrom, Brandi (Jeff) Ginsburg, David (Heather) Schor and Joey Schor, and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother Al (Mary) Schor and sister-in-law Edyth Schor.

The family suggests memorial contributions go to Rodef Shalom.
