Dr. Philip Lewis, a pediatrician in the Denver area for 58 years, passed away March 5, 2021, in Denver. Rabbi Steven Foster officiated at the May 10 graveside service at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
“Philip was a kind and conscientious doctor who was loved by generations of children and families in his care,” his loved ones said.
Dr. Lewis was born April 14, 1923, in New York City, where he spent his youth.
He attended Dartmouth College and earned his medical degree at Albany Medical School.
Dr. Lewis served in the US Army in WW II and the US Air Force during the Korean War.
He decided to settle in Denver after being stationed here by the Air Force.
Dr. Lewis married Adele Susan Rosenbaum Lewis on Dec. 2, 1951.
He retired from medicine in 2009, at age 86.
Dr. Lewis, who belonged to several local boards and committees, particularly those related to child car safety, volunteered at pediatric clinics in rural Colorado for many years.
A clinical professor at CU Medical School, he published numerous articles in prestigious medical journals.
Dr. Philip Lewis is survived by his wife Adele Lewis of Denver; daughter Catherine Lewis (Linda Mitchell) of Rhode Island, and sons Steven Lewis of Basalt, Colo., and Michael Lewis (John Inskeep) of Denver; and grandchildren Makena, Crandle and Toby.
