Dr. Paul Rosen

Dr. Paul R. Rosen, who had a distinguished military career as a pediatrics physician and consultant in public healthcare policy, passed away June 20, 2019, in Denver. Rabbi Ted Stainman officiated at the June 24 graveside service at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Dr. Rosen was born April 19, 1938, in the Bronx, NY.

He attended the Bronx High School of Science, where he met his wife Harriet Rosen. They married in 1959.

An alumnus of Union College in Schenectady, NY, he funded an endowment for under-represented students and a Great Room at the Union Chabad.

Dr. Rosen graduated the Albert Einstein Medical College and Columbia University School of Public Health.

A volunteer at two Native American Indian reservations, he taught wilderness medicine and first aid for numerous outdoor organizations.

Dr. Rosen was a surveyor for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

He consulted for several hospitals, healthcare groups and the government of Zambia and USAID.

During his 22-year military career as a military physician, he held administrative and command positions at several military posts and hospitals.

He was on the faculty of Harvard Children’s Hospital as well as medical facilities in Colorado, Texas and New York.

After retiring from the military in Denver, Dr. Rosen was an active leader with the Colorado Mountain Club and Big City Mountaineers.

He volunteered for the department of paleontology at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, where he helped found the Teen Science Scholars endowment fund.

Dr. Rosen is survived by his wife Harriet Rosen; children Amy (Ross) Silverstein and Mark (Ercy) Rosen; and grandchildren Ariel and Zarah Rosen and Ezekiel, Danielle, Naomi and Rachel Silverstein.
