Dr. Norman Butterman, a respected dentist for 45 years who founded the Denver Health Center, passed away May 28, 2020, in Denver. Rabbi Bruce Dollin officiated at the May 31 graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“His motto was, ‘Every tooth is precious,’ and to him, every person was precious,” the family said. “He was a quiet man of incredible integrity, passion, talent, creativity, positivity and love.”

His grandsons called him “our role model for optimism and a positive outlook.”

Mr. Butterman was born June 25, 1929, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and attended Baron Byng and West High School.

After graduating McGill University, he attended the university’s dental school, which had a 2% admissions quota for Jewish students.

Dr. Butterman met Marilyn Silver over Labor Day weekend in 1960 while visiting the Tarlton Resort in the Catskills. Before taking a swim, he asked her to hold his watch. They got engaged by the end of the weekend.

“Their marriage was a love story that lasted almost 60 years,” the family said.

Dr. Butterman opened a dental practice in Cote St. Luc, Quebec.

He skied until he was 80 and loved the outdoors.

Due to major political conflicts in Quebec, Dr. Butterman moved with his family to Denver in July, 1979, and established a new dental practice.

Norman Butterman is survived by his wife Marilyn Butterman; sister Rita Stein; children Susan (David) Brody, Daniel (Irene) Butterman and Steven Butterman; and grandchildren, Jason Brody, Zachary Hunter, Adam, Kevin and Jared Butterman.
