Dr. Louis Kurland

Dr. Louis Richard Kurland of Hollywood, Fla., formerly of Denver, passed away Nov. 14, 2008, after succumbing to a brain tumor. He was 68.

The service was held Nov. 16 at the Beth David Memorial Chapel in Hollywood. Interment followed at Temple Beth El Memorial Gardens.

Dr. Kurland was born in Denver to the late Dr. Stanley and Ruth Kurland.

He earned his BS and medical degree from CU and trained as an ophthalmologist at George Washington University and the Washington Hospital Center in DC.

After serving in the US Army, he moved to Hollywood, Fla.

Dr. Kurland practiced ophthalmology for 34 years. He was chief of ophthalmology at Hollywood Memorial Hospital and an attending physician at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.

After retiring from medicine nine years ago, he traveled extensively with his wife Robbie and enjoyed photography and studying Spanish.

He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Dr. Kurland is survived by his wife Roslyn (Robbie) Kurland; daughters Pamela (David Marchick) Kurland and Jennifer (Steven) Turner; grandchildren Adam and Brandon Turner and Hannah and Zachary Marchick; sister Sally (Don) Paist; aunts Bluma Wenner and Harriet Wandel, both of Denver; mother-in-law Jean Sugerman and sister-in-law Heidi Levinson.
