Dr. Harold Saferstein, father of Denver resident Ben Cohen, passed away on January 19, 2023, at the age of 89. A service was held in Scottsdale, Ariz., officiated by Susan Sackett. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
In 1958, while he was in the US Army, Dr. Saferstein married Doreen Kaufman; they were married for 61 years until her passing in December, 2021.
A native of Elizabeth, NJ, Dr. Saferstein practiced dermatology in Wheeling, W. Va. for 30 years before retiring to Scottsdale in 1992.
“In later years, he became an active humanist and supporter of secular values,” his family said.
Survivors are sons Aaron (Lynn) Saferstein, Ben (Rabbi Sandy) Cohen; and Eric (Georgiann) Saferstein; and granddaughters Shira and Amy.
