Dr. Gregory Marc Reich of Colorado Springs and Palm Desert, Calif., passed away on Feb. 8, 2016, due to complications related to multiple myeloma and Gauchers Disease. Services were held in Palm Desert.
Dr. Reich was born May 21, 1948, in Denver to the late Philip and Helen Reich.
He graduated from CU-Boulder in 1970 and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Northwestern University Dental School in 1974.
Dr. Reich completed a surgical residency in periodontics and simultaneously earned an MA in oral pathology from Northwestern in 1976.
He was board certified by the American Board of Periodontology in 1984 and became a Diplomate, the boards highest achievement.
Dr. Reich, one of the first surgeons chosen to receive advanced one-on-one surgical training in applied oral implantology by Dr. Gerald A. Niznick, the inventor of implant technology in the US, was invited to speak at the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) and other professional organizations.
He published original research and wrote numerous articles and papers for AAP and the Midwestern Society of Periodontics.
Dr. Reich was in private practice in Lake Forest and Libertyville, Ill.
He also taught at Northwestern Dental School and Loyola University Dental School, and was on the medical staff at Lake Forest Hospital, 1976-1998.
In July, 1998, when he was semi-retired, Dr. Reich and his family moved to the Broadmoor area of Colorado Springs, where he opened a state-of-the-art practice.
He retired in 2013.
Dr. Reich is survived by Lynn, his wife of 43 years; daughter Dr. Camille Reich; sisters Melanie (Lee) Siegel and Bari (Robert) Willson; and numerous nephews and nieces.
