Dr. Elaine Kauvar

Dr. Elaine M. Kauvar, a Denver native, professor at Baruch College, City University of New York, for almost 41 years and the author of two books on writer Cynthia Ozick, passed away Oct. 10, 2019. Rabbi Rachel Kobrin officiated at the Oct. 13 graveside service at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“Elaine will be sorely missed by her family and friends,” her loved ones said.

Dr. Kauvar was a professor of English and American literature at Baruch College, CUNY, for almost 41 years.

She wrote and published two books entitled Cynthia Ozick’s Fiction and Cynthia Ozick Reader and published several articles on William Blake, Jane Austen, Philip Roth and Ozick.

Dr. Kauvar was born May 29, 1939, in Denver to the late Dr. Borah and Sarah Mozer.

After attending the University of Chicago for two years, she returned to Colorado and earned her BA from CU; an MA in English from Duke University; and a PhD in English literature from Northwestern University.

Dr. Elaine Kauvar is survived by her sister Evelyn (Gail) Weiscamp of Denver and brother Dr. Erwin (Helen Ruth) Mozer of Centennial; niece Dr. Erika Mozer (John Glick) of Menlo Park, Calif., and nephew Dr. Tony Mozer (Dr. Stevie Carraro) of Chicago; great-nephew Max; and many cousins.
