Dr. Bernhard Josef Abrahamsson

Dr. Bernhard Josef Abrahamsson, a respected professor who taught throughout the world, passed away May 14, 2018, in Denver. Rabbi Steven Foster and Cantor Joel Lichterman officiated at the May 16 service at BMH-BJ. Interment followed at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“Bernhard was a beloved husband, father and grandfather,” the family said. “He was loved and admired by all who knew him.”

Mr. Abrahamsson was born March 11, 1930, in Stockholm, Sweden, where he attended the Ships Officers School and Royal Navy War College.

He served in the Swedish navy in the early 1950s.

Mr. Abrahamsson married Varda Katz Abrahamsson on Oct. 6, 1958.

After moving to the US, he received a BA from City College of New York and a PhD in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Mr. Abrahamsson worked at the International Monetary Fund for three years.

A sought-after professor, he taught in Alaska, Singapore, Israel, at DU’s Graduate School of International Studies, Dalhousie University, Woodshole Ocean- ographic Institute, the US Merchant Marine Academy and the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

He retired in 1997.

Mr. Abrahamsson is survived by his wife Varda Abrahamsson; daughters Yael (Ben Weinberg) Abrahamsson, Nili Abrahamsson and Sheila Abrahamsson; and grandchildren Alby, Leah and Maya.
