Dorothy Singer, a lifetime Denver resident, passed away Aug. 10, 2011, at the Heritage Club Greenwood Village Alzheimers Unit. She was 94.
Cantor Maurice Weiss officiated at the Aug. 14 graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Family members said that Mrs. Singer was a warm, loving and caring person who always put her family before herself.
All four of her grandchildren eulogized her at the service as a wonderful grandmother throughout their lives.
Mrs. Singer was born May 17, 1917, in Denver to the late Annie Goldberg Sakalow and Abraham Sakalow.
Raised on the West Side, she attended Cheltenham Elementary, Lake Junior and North High School.
Although she wanted to attend college, she chose to work to support her family.
She married Harry Singer on Aug. 20, 1939. The late Rabbi Manuel Laderman officiated at the wedding.
Mr. Singer died on April 19, 1989, four months shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Singer, who worked most of her life, retired from the CU School of Nursing, where she was secretary to the dean for 20 years, in 1985.
A member of BMH-BJ and Temple Emanuel, she belonged to the BMH-BJ Womens League, Hadassah and the JCC seniors group.
In her later years, she got a cockatiel named Gizmo. The bird was her constant companion until right before her death.
Mrs. Singer is survived by her son Arnie (Narlene) Singer of Denver; grandchildren Alan Singer of Austin, Texas, Daniel Singer of Denver, Jordan (Rebecca) Singer of Boston and Steven (Jen) Singer of Maryland; great-grandchildren Maayan, Aviv, Sarah and Abigail; and daughter-in-law Sylvia Singer.
Mrs. Singers son Dr. Stuart I. Singer predeceased her on April 24, 2009.
