Dorothy (Dotty) Karo, a community volunteer, storyteller and wonderful cook, passed away Jan. 7, 2009, in Denver.
Cantor Birdie Becker officiated at the Jan. 9 service held at Feldman Chapel. Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Dorothy lived life in a state of graceful joy, the family said. Her smiles and nurturing spirit sustained herself and everyone around her.
In her Five Wishes, Dotty asked, Tell my stories; remember the positives. We will remember, and cherish your memory.
Dorothy Olesh was born in 1925 to the late Rae and Isadore Olesh, who helped found the Hebrew Educational Alliance.
Mrs. Karo was married in 1946 and moved to Florida, where she lived for 31 years.
She moved back to Colorado in 1977 to be closer to her family and the mountains.
For 24 years, Mrs. Karo spent her summers volunteering at the Juvenile Arthritis Camp in Estes Park. She also volunteered at the Arthritis Foundation, AMC Cancer Research Center, 9Health Fair, Bnai Havurah, and several clubs at Windsor Gardens.
Although she suffered from rheumatoid and osteo-arthritis, Mrs. Karo loved cooking, baking, sewing, traveling, playing Mah Jong, telling stories and helping others.
She is survived by her daughters Cherie Karo (Larry) Schwartz and Donna Karo (Brad) Nunn; grandchildren Chris and Michael Nunn; and siblings Lucille Galber, Gerald (Jerry) Olesh and Arthur (Arlene) Moss.
