Dorothy Gibbons

Dorothy Gibbons, a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, passed away March 11, 2017, at her home. Rabbi Bruce Dollin and Cantors Martin Goldstein and Joel Lichterman officiated at the March 14 service at the HEA. Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“Her most precious legacy was her close, loving family,” they said.

Mrs. Gibbons was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Pueblo, Colo., to Hil and Ida Templehof.

The youngest of three daughters, she prided herself as the most adventurous and was the first to try new things, like driving a car.

She moved to Denver at 16 and attended North High School.

That’s where Dorothy met the love of her life, Joe Gibbons. They were married on June 18, 1950.

The couple enjoyed traveling with family and friends and playing golf.

Mr. Gibbons died in 1987.

Mrs. Gibbons was the matriarch of her family. Her culinary and entertaining skills were legendary, especially around the holidays.

She was admired for her grace and generosity toward others.

Hadassah was an important cause for Mrs. Gibbons. A life member, she chaired many events through the years and made all her children and grandchildren life members.

Mrs. Gibbons is survived by her children Hal Gibbons, Brad (Sandra) Gibbons, Tim (Deni) Gibbons and Marla (Garry) Schaffer; grandchildren Lyndsey, Julia, Ben (Bonnibel), Jared, Josef, Jordan Gibbons and Josh Schaffer; sisters Evelyn Mendelsberg and Helen (Gene) Eisen; and cousin Robbe Sue Sokolove.

Contributions may be made to Hadassah, HEA and the CU Cancer Center.
