Dorothy Friedenson, former owner of the Cadillac Coiffures Salon, passed away June 30, 2009, after battling osteoporosis. Rabbi Solomon Gruenwald and Cantor Maurice Weiss officiated at the July 2 graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Dorothy was a woman of many talents who gave so much to so many from a loving heart, the family said. Her hands were made of gold.
A woman of great strength and perseverance, she could do anything she set her mind to.
She was born Aug. 26, 1920. Only 14 when her father passed away, she quit school and lied about her age so she could get a job and support her four siblings.
Dorothy met Tony Freidenson when she was a teenager. They would have been married 72 years on July 25.
A cattle truck driver, Mrs. Freidenson then sewed professionally for a high-end dress shop and worked at the May Co.
She went to beauty school at age 38 and graduated valedictorian of her class.
Two years later, Mrs. Freidenson and her daughter Judy opened the Cadillac Coiffures Salon. Daughter Arlene soon joined them.
Mrs. Freidenson retired at age 71.
A cook and baker, she loved to golf, fish, needlepoint, crochet, knit, and sew clothes for her daughters.
Chairman of the March of Dimes drive, she belonged to Bnai Brith Women and the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Freidenson is survived by her husband Moses (Tony) Freidenson; daughters Judith (Dennis) Fingersh Truitt and Arlene (Claude) Malay; grandchildren Lee Jay (Mona) Fingersh; great-grandchildren Jordy and Jace Fingersh; and step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
