Ava Dezen’s unconventional yet perfect birth

The way Emily Dezen tells it, the birthing of her daughter Ava Louise on January 6, happened exactly the way it should have — even if it was unplanned. For father Ben, who delivered Ava in the family’s car just outside the birthing center, the experience was perhaps less calm, but just as right.
The couple’s joy, awe and disbelief infuse their recent interview with the Intermountain Jewish News. Baby Ava, with round rosy cheeks, also joins the video conference, proof of the dramatic tale.
The couple, both 34, had a birthing plan. They intended to have a quiet, private delivery at the Birthing Center of Denver, away from noise and crowds, with a labor playlist humming in the background.
